Description
Air Fryer Apple Crumble is a quick version of the classic dessert, featuring spiced apples topped with a buttery, crumbly oat mixture. The air fryer quickly cooks the apples until soft and juicy, while the crumble topping becomes golden and crisp. This easy method means you can have a dessert with minimal fuss and without turning on the oven.
Ingredients
For the Apples
- 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced) – Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Braeburn for a balance of sweetness and tartness.
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar – Adds sweetness to the apples.
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon – Brings warm spice to the filling.
- 1 tsp lemon juice – Keeps the apples from browning and enhances flavor.
For the Crumble Topping
- 50g all-purpose flour – Forms the base of the crumble topping.
- 30g rolled oats – Adds texture and a chewy crunch.
- 50g brown sugar – Sweetens the topping and caramelizes as it bakes.
- 40g cold butter (cubed) – Creates a buttery, crumbly topping.
- Pinch of salt – Balances the sweetness and enhances flavor.
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Apples
In a mixing bowl, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Stir well to evenly coat the apples with sugar and cinnamon, then set aside.
Step 2: Make the Crumble Topping
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a fork or pastry cutter to blend the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 3: Assemble the Apple Crumble
Spoon the apple mixture into a small baking dish or two ramekins that fit into your air fryer basket. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
Step 4: Air Fry the Crumble
Place the baking dish or ramekins in the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
Step 5: Serve Warm
Carefully remove the apple crumble from the air fryer and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
