Description
Jamie Oliver’s Celeriac Mash is a smooth and creamy side dish made by boiling and mashing celeriac. It has a rich, earthy flavor with subtle sweetness, making it an excellent accompaniment to both hearty and light meals. This mash is often used as a substitute for mashed potatoes, providing a nutrient-packed option that’s perfect for those seeking a lighter or low-carb side.
Ingredients
- Celeriac (1 large): Peeled and chopped into chunks.
- Butter (2 tbsp): For richness and creaminess.
- Double cream (100ml / ½ cup): Adds extra creaminess to the mash.
- Olive oil (1 tbsp): Optional, for drizzling on top.
- Salt and pepper: To taste, for seasoning.
- Fresh thyme or parsley (optional): For garnish and added flavor.
Instructions
1. Prepare the Celeriac:
- Peel and chop the celeriac: Use a sharp knife to remove the tough outer skin of the celeriac, then chop it into chunks.
2. Boil the Celeriac:
- Bring water to a boil: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.
- Cook the celeriac: Add the chopped celeriac to the boiling water and cook for about 20 minutes, or until tender. You should be able to easily pierce the celeriac with a fork.
3. Mash the Celeriac:
- Drain and mash: Drain the celeriac and return it to the pot. Use a masher to mash the celeriac until smooth. For a silkier texture, you can also use a food processor.
- Add butter and cream: Stir in the butter and double cream, mixing until the mash is creamy and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
4. Serve:
- Garnish and serve: Optionally drizzle with olive oil and garnish with fresh thyme or parsley before serving. Enjoy your creamy celeriac mash as a side dish with your favorite main course.
