These breakfast waffles are light and crispy on the outside, with a soft, fluffy interior. Made with simple pantry staples, they’re versatile enough to pair with a wide range of toppings, from fruits and syrups to eggs and bacon.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • Plain Flour (250g): Forms the base of the batter.
  • Baking Powder (2 tsp): Ensures a light and fluffy texture.
  • Caster Sugar (2 tbsp): Adds a touch of sweetness.
  • Salt (a pinch)

Wet Ingredients

  • Eggs (2 large): Adds structure and richness.
  • Milk (300ml): For a smooth batter.
  • Butter (75g, melted): Adds flavor and crispness.
  • Vanilla Extract (1 tsp, optional): For a subtle aroma.

Optional Toppings

  • Fresh fruit (berries, bananas, or apples)
  • Maple syrup or honey
  • Whipped cream or yogurt
  • Bacon and eggs for a savory twist

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the plain flour, baking powder, caster sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract (if using). Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth batter forms.

Step 2: Preheat the waffle iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or a small amount of melted butter.

Step 3: Cook the waffles

Pour a ladleful of batter into the waffle iron, spreading it evenly. Close the lid and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.

Step 4: Serve

Carefully remove the waffles from the iron and serve immediately with your favorite toppings. Repeat with the remaining batter.
