Jamie Oliver Caprese Salad Recipe

Jamie Oliver Caprese Salad

Jamie Oliver’s Caprese salad is a modern take on the traditional Italian Insalata Caprese—a simple, no-cook dish made with fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, basil leaves, and olive oil. Jamie’s version sometimes includes a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, sea salt, and cracked black pepper to elevate the flavors even further. It’s fresh, clean, and all about celebrating quality ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 3 ripe medium tomatoes (or heirloom variety) – Sliced thick
  • 200g fresh mozzarella (or buffalo mozzarella) – Drained and sliced
  • A handful of fresh basil leaves – Torn or left whole
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil – For drizzling
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional) – For added depth
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper – To taste

Instructions

Step 1: Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella

Cut the tomatoes into thick slices, about ½-inch thick. Slice the mozzarella into similar-sized pieces.

Step 2: Layer on a plate

Arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices on a serving plate, alternating them in a row or a circle. Tuck whole or torn basil leaves between the layers.

Step 3: Drizzle with oil and balsamic

Drizzle olive oil evenly over the salad. If using, add a light drizzle of balsamic vinegar. This adds a gentle tang that complements the sweetness of the tomatoes.

Step 4: Season and serve

Sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Serve immediately, while the ingredients are fresh and at room temperature.
