Jamie Oliver Creamed Spinach Recipe

Jamie Oliver Creamed Spinach

Creamed spinach is a classic dish that combines tender spinach leaves with a rich and creamy sauce. Jamie Oliver’s version focuses on fresh, wholesome ingredients, including cream, garlic, and a hint of nutmeg, to bring out the natural sweetness of spinach while adding a touch of indulgence.

Ingredients

  • Fresh spinach (500g): Washed and trimmed, or use baby spinach for convenience.
  • Butter (2 tablespoons): Adds richness to the dish.
  • Garlic (2 cloves): Minced, for a fragrant base.
  • Heavy cream (200ml): Creates a creamy texture.
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (2 tablespoons): Adds a savory, cheesy note.
  • Nutmeg (a pinch): Optional, for a warm, aromatic touch.
  • Salt and pepper: To taste, for seasoning.

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the spinach

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the spinach and cook until wilted, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Remove the spinach, drain any excess liquid, and set aside.

Step 2: Make the creamy base

  • In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 3: Combine spinach with cream

  • Return the spinach to the skillet and stir to combine with the garlic butter.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the spinach is evenly coated.

Step 4: Add cheese and seasoning

  • Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and a pinch of nutmeg, if using.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5: Simmer and serve

  • Simmer the mixture for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Serve hot as a side dish or topping.
