Description
Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients Fish Pie is a simplified version of the traditional British fish pie. Using only five key ingredients—white fish, leeks, potatoes, Cheddar cheese, and cream—this dish combines tender fish with creamy mashed potatoes for a comforting, family-friendly meal. It’s a great way to enjoy a classic, without needing a long list of ingredients.
Ingredients
- White fish fillets (400g / 14 oz): Skinless, boneless fish like cod, haddock, or pollock.
- Leeks (2 large): Thinly sliced, adding a mild, sweet flavor.
- Potatoes (800g / 1.75 lbs): Peeled and chopped, for the mashed potato topping.
- Double cream (200ml / ¾ cup): Provides a rich, creamy texture to the pie.
- Cheddar cheese (100g / 3.5 oz): Grated, for a cheesy topping that melts into the potatoes.
Instructions
1. Prepare the Potatoes:
- Cook the potatoes: Place the peeled and chopped potatoes into a large saucepan of salted water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 15-20 minutes until tender.
- Mash the potatoes: Once cooked, drain the potatoes and mash them with a bit of seasoning. Set aside.
2. Cook the Leeks:
- Sauté the leeks: In the same pan, heat a little oil or butter over medium heat. Add the sliced leeks and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.
3. Assemble the Pie:
- Layer the fish and leeks: In a baking dish, arrange the white fish fillets evenly. Spoon the sautéed leeks over the top.
- Add cream: Pour the double cream over the fish and leeks, spreading it out evenly to coat everything.
4. Top with Potatoes and Cheese:
- Add mashed potatoes: Spoon the mashed potatoes over the fish and cream mixture, spreading it out to create an even layer.
- Sprinkle with cheese: Scatter the grated Cheddar cheese over the top of the mashed potatoes.
5. Bake the Pie:
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the fish pie for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
- Cool slightly: Let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
