Description

The Jamie Oliver Gluten-Free Apple Crumble is a twist on the traditional apple crumble, made with a gluten-free topping that’s crisp and buttery. The apples are spiced and tender, while the topping adds a satisfying crunch. This dessert is quick to assemble and makes an ideal sweet treat for those following a gluten-free diet or anyone who loves apple desserts.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling

  • 56 Large Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp): Peeled, cored, and sliced for a perfect balance of tart and sweet.
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar: Adds sweetness to the apple filling.
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon: Provides a warm, spiced flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice: Helps balance the sweetness and prevents browning.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract: Enhances the flavor of the apples.

For the Crumble Topping

  • 100g Gluten-Free Rolled Oats: Adds texture to the topping.
  • 75g Almond Flour: Provides a nutty flavor and helps bind the crumble.
  • 50g Brown Sugar: Sweetens and caramelizes the topping.
  • 75g Unsalted Butter (chilled and cubed): Creates a rich, buttery crumble.
  • A Pinch of Salt: Balances the Flavors.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Chopped Nuts (like pecans or walnuts): Adds a crunchy texture.
  • Raisins or Dried Cranberries: For extra flavor and sweetness.

Instructions

Step 1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

Step 2. Prepare the Apple Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss everything together until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the apple mixture to the baking dish, spreading it out in an even layer.

Step 3. Make the Crumble Topping

In another bowl, mix the gluten-free oats, almond flour, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add the chilled butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or fork to combine until the mixture forms a coarse, crumbly texture. If desired, add chopped nuts or dried fruit for extra texture and flavor.

Step 4. Assemble and Bake

Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples, covering them completely. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

Step 5. Serve

Allow the apple crumble to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or custard for an extra delicious dessert.
