Description
This recipe showcases juicy chicken pieces marinated and cooked in a hoisin-based sauce infused with garlic, soy, and honey. The chicken is either baked or pan-fried, resulting in a dish that’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a luscious, glossy finish.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts – Tender and juicy base.
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce – The star ingredient, adding sweetness and depth.
- 1 tbsp soy sauce – Enhances the savory flavor.
- 1 tbsp honey – Balances the tanginess with a touch of sweetness.
- 1 garlic clove (minced) – Adds aromatic depth.
- 1 tsp sesame oil – For a nutty, fragrant note.
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil – For cooking.
- 1 spring onion (sliced) – For garnish.
- Sesame seeds – Optional, for garnish.
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Marinade
In a mixing bowl, combine the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and sesame oil. Mix well to create a smooth marinade.
Step 2: Marinate the Chicken
Add the chicken thighs or breasts to the bowl, ensuring they are fully coated in the marinade. Let the chicken marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour for more flavor.
Step 3: Cook the Chicken
Option 1: Pan-Frying
- Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chicken to the skillet, reserving any extra marinade.
- Cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing it to thicken and coat the chicken.
Option 2: Baking
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan) or 400°F.
- Place the marinated chicken on a lined baking tray.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, brushing with extra marinade halfway through, until cooked through and caramelized.
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
Transfer the cooked chicken to a serving dish. Sprinkle with sliced spring onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
