Description

Nigella’s Breakfast Trifle is a beautifully layered dish featuring creamy yogurt, fresh or stewed fruits, and crunchy granola. It’s an easy yet elegant breakfast that feels like a treat without the guilt. Each layer offers something different: the tangy yogurt contrasts with the sweet fruit, while the granola adds a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

  • Greek yogurt (250g): Creamy and rich, Greek yogurt forms the base of this trifle.
  • Honey (2 tablespoons): To sweeten the yogurt naturally.
  • Mixed berries (200g, fresh or frozen): Adds sweetness and tartness to the layers.
  • Granola (100g): Provides crunch and texture to the dish.
  • Chia seeds (1 tablespoon): For extra fiber and nutrients.
  • Vanilla extract (1 teaspoon): Adds flavor and complements the sweetness of the fruit.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the yogurt

  • In a small bowl, mix the Greek yogurt with honey and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • This adds a subtle sweetness to balance the tanginess of the yogurt.

Step 2: Prepare the fruit

  • If using fresh berries, wash and dry them.
  • If using frozen berries, let them thaw slightly or stew them for a few minutes with a bit of water and honey to soften.

Step 3: Layer the trifle

  • In your serving glasses or bowls, spoon a layer of the sweetened yogurt into the bottom.
  • Add a handful of mixed berries on top.
  • Sprinkle a layer of granola, followed by a few chia seeds for added texture and nutrition.
  • Repeat the layers until the glass is full, finishing with a topping of berries and granola for a beautiful presentation.

Step 4: Serve

  • Serve immediately for the best crunch, or let it sit for a few minutes if you prefer the granola to soften slightly.
  • Enjoy your breakfast trifle with a cup of coffee or tea for a complete, satisfying start to the day.
