Description

Nigella’s Mackerel Pâté is a creamy, smoky spread made with smoked mackerel, cream cheese, and lemon juice. It’s easy to make and packed with flavor. With just a few ingredients blended together, this pâté is perfect as a starter or a snack. Serve it with crackers, crusty bread, or vegetable sticks for a satisfying dish that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 250g smoked mackerel fillets (skin removed)
  • 100g full-fat cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp crème fraîche or sour cream
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or dill (optional, for garnish)
  • Crackers, bread, or vegetable sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mackerel: Remove the skin from the smoked mackerel fillets and check for any bones. Break the fish into chunks.
  2. Blend the Ingredients: In a food processor, combine the smoked mackerel, cream cheese, crème fraîche, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard (if using). Blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. Season to Taste: Taste the pâté and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Blend again to combine the seasoning evenly.
  4. Transfer to a Bowl: Using a spatula, scoop the pâté into a serving dish or bowl.
  5. Chill Before Serving: While it can be served immediately, chilling the pâté for 30 minutes helps the flavors meld together and enhances the overall taste.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish the pâté with freshly chopped parsley or dill, and serve it with crackers, bread, or vegetable sticks.
