Mary Berry Chocolate Chip Cookies are classic homemade cookies made with a buttery dough, sweet brown sugar, and generous amounts of chocolate chips. Known for their crisp edges and soft centers, these cookies balance texture and flavor perfectly—making them a family favorite that’s hard to resist.
Ingredients
- 125g (1/2 cup + 2 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
- 100g (1/2 cup) light brown sugar
- 75g (1/3 cup) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 200g (1 1/2 cups) self-raising flour
- Pinch of salt
- 150g (1 cup) milk or dark chocolate chips
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven
- 
Set oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F. Line baking trays with parchment paper. 
Step 2: Cream the butter and sugars
- 
In a mixing bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy. 
Step 3: Add egg and vanilla
- 
Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. 
Step 4: Combine dry ingredients
- 
Sift in the self-raising flour and add a pinch of salt. Mix to form a soft dough. 
Step 5: Fold in chocolate chips
- 
Stir the chocolate chips through the dough using a spatula or wooden spoon. 
Step 6: Shape and space
- 
Scoop tablespoon-sized balls onto the tray, leaving space for spreading. 
Step 7: Bake to perfection
- 
Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers look set. 
Step 8: Cool and enjoy
- 
Let cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
